Spend More Time On Your Business

One huge mistake I have made is not spending enough time working on my websites. Right now I make a couple hundred each month and that is fine. My main goal was to become successful and earn money online. Well I built a foundation and started earning money online. That is fine, but after reading a few major blogs I quickly learned that there is much more to online business than ranking well in the SERPs and making a few bucks using affiliate programs.

If you really want to make money then becoming a content producer is a must whether it be articles or blogs. You need to become well known and a respected expert within your niche. Reading becomes very important making sure to stay on top of any news that happens on the topic you produce content on. If you become quick enough to republish the news before it hits the general public then you will be looked to by those in your niche and backlinks, money, and traffic will flow naturally.

Talking about one should do when online is actually really simple, but going out to the web and accomplishing is a much different story. You need true passion on your subject. If you lack the heart pounding excitement when you are alone and thinking of new ways to expand your business then working online is probably not for you. To really succeed you need to have your mind racing thinking non-stop about different ideas on how to succeed. It should be difficult to keep up with the ideas coming at you. Taking time out each day to really keep track of all the different ways will become a must then the implementation comes. Do not start on every idea you come up with. I learned this the hard way after creating forums, blogs, and static websites that were in many different niches. The problem with starting all these websites is you will not have enough time to spend on each new project. It is better to pick a niche then focus your efforts on the same subject. This will help you quickly increase authority and income. Being a major content publisher in one niche is the best way to become well known and to start simply set up a blog and write your ideas down.

Once you begin publishing content within your niche remember that you will not become a superstar overnight. It takes a ton of time and practice to really separate yourself from everyone else. Start writing every single day without getting frustrated that you are not getting instant gratification from your work. The work you put in the first year will pay out after your web presence has been around a couple years. This may be difficult to get over, but if you are willing to put the years of work into your one major blog or website it will pay off over time.

Setting Up An Online Business Network

The first step is setting up one lone presence and figuring you will need to gain enough do follow backlinks to rank in the top ten of Google. As you market your one presence you may find that you will have enough time to begin setting up other web presences. The reason I use the term presence is because rather than only setting up static websites you will probably find that you enjoy learning about new types of online presences such as blogs, forums, web pages, pod casts, videos, and pictures. You will find that setting up a presence can be as simple as signing up for you tube, face book, or linked in. These all can provide a platform for making connections and finding leads.

Once your main presence is up and running the next step is spreading out into the social world. When you decide to start building profiles on social websites it is important not to spread yourself to thin. Usually around five profiles will be the limit for the majority of webmasters. You want to be able to have time to participate on all the social websites that you are signed up with. The more time you have to spend on each individual social website the larger your network will grow. It is better to only participate on one social website if you have time to actually interact with the people on the website. To many times I have seen people join hundreds of social websites and be unable to make friends because rather than actually participate on the social website they end up leaving and signing up for others.

Of course social websites are not the only way to increase your online business network. After you get either a website or blog up and running if you want you can increase your network by creating another presence. If you do not have much time then try creating a simple web page at squidoo, hub pages, or Google Knol. All of these allow you to create one single web page and knol and squidoo will let you link to your main presence with do follow links. This means when you market the page it will go up in the serps and the link to your main page will help your main page or site go up in the serps. You can also create blogs over at blogger.com or wordpress.com. The point is when you create several web presences you will have plenty of do follow links when you need to get a new site or blog up and running.
