Now you’re at the final selection process, and this is where you have to make a good impression on your prospective employer. A lot of induviduals, no matter how good they look on paper, in there related field ,will blow it at the interview stage. Not all of us are good at interviews including me, you need to have silver tongue, to sell yourself, some people have this gift and some people don’t, it seems unfair but it’s just the way it is.

Here are a few things you can do to improve your chances at the interview stage.

1 Personal presentation: All ways and I mean always turn up for the interview neatly dressed. This is an absolute essential, the way you look portrays a lot about you. A scruffily dressed individual portrays the image, that he or she can’t be bothered and that is the image that a prospective employer will pick up on in the interview process. If you can buy some new clothes and shoes for this purpose then go out and buy some, they don’t have to be designer clothes, just presentable. Pay a visit to the barbers or hair dressers and treat yourself to a haircut, and if you are a man don’t forget to get a shave.

2 Be honest: The worst thing that you could possibly do at the interview is lie, well lie and then get caught out by the interview team. Apart from making you look like a total idiot it will blow your chances of getting that job that you have worked so hard to get, really it’s not worth it. Some of these large corporate companies employee specially trained interviewers who are as sharp as a samurai sword and will catch you out if you lie. Always answer the interviewers questions as accurately and a truthfully as you possibly can. You will come across as a genuine person and the interviewer will appreciate your honesty, let’s face it would you employ a liar.

3 Be Prepared: Before you even think of entering the interview room, get yourself ready. Read through your CV and memorise it word for word. The interview panel will have a copy of your CV in front of them and will be asking you questions based on the details that it provides. The interview team will be quizzing you, and if they ask you a question that is based on the information that you have supplied via your CV and you give them a wrong answer it will make you look like one of couple of things, a liar or a an idiot. Either way it will not do you any favours and will lessen your chances of getting the position.

Letters with spelling errors show a high level of carelessness. Use a spell checker to confirm that there are no typos and spelling mistakes.

It is always important to follow whatever instruction given by the organization you are applying to so find this out before writing.

Always know that you are painting a picture of yourself with your cover letter. Let you letter be respectful but exude confidence. Your letter must convey a sense value you would be adding to the company. It MUST be shown to be a mutually beneficial relationship. No one would hire a timid, unsure person.

let it be felt that you would really love to work in the organization and that you have a lot to offer them and you would be in a better position to get invited for an interview. There are some recommendations about including in your letter that you would be following up by calling. It can even go further with your offering to call on a particular date. My take on this is simple – This could be ideal depending on the organization. You may be seen as desperate by some organizations so do some research to determine if this would be appropriate before deciding on which way to go.
