Recently I tried to run my own blog and, naturally, there has accumulated a lot of impressions that I want to share with you.
I had no special requirements for installed software, disk space and volume of traffic. Blog runs on engine WordPress, there are relatively few images and no audio and video files. Also I wanted to be able to create subdomains (for experimental), cPanel, cron, etc.
I was took searches. First impressions were encouraging. There were a lot of companies that provided such services. After a preliminary screening conducted with the information on official sites, I have received a list of ten hosters.
I had no illusions about it. Of course I understood that I can hardly expect for super service in the most inexpensive packages (I was interested in the proposal with a price of about $ 5 per month). But I wanted to understand clear what should I pay for. So I started to collect detailed information.
Here began the most interesting. About EVERY hoster from my list, I found reviews and articles of two kinds. The first is an obvious advertisement. The second – reviews of dissatisfied customers (or competitors). And yes, it was fascinating reading . People do not hesitate in their expressions and in details, with the transition to the person tell all that “boiling”.
In one case, I even found the correspondence on the forum between dissatisfied customer and the director of the hosting company with the volume of eight pages.
And it was almost impossible to find out who is guilty. Customers complain about bad customer support, unstable operation of the servers, and the lack of essential functions for scripts. Hosters wrote that only bad scripts are guilty.
Ultimately, I decided to do an independent verification. I posted letters with questions to those support services and checked how much time they spent on the answer. The best result was about 20 minutes (questions, of course, were simple and related to their services). I looked how other sites work on these hosting services (speed of downloading files, errors, etc.).
After that I read documents, the terms of the provision and description of services on the official websites of hosters. If there was no information about it on the site I immediately deleted the hosting provider from the list.
Ultimately I made my chose. For two months since the placement of the blog, I have no claims (they have no, too).
I will not tell you the title of hoster. It is too little time passed for making any conclusions. And of course there are a lot of negative comments about it. That is all; I wish you good luck in your searches.
