Sooner or later, every one is faced with an issue like the work search. Some people change jobs on their own, but someone – because of the current circumstances. But we are all united by one thing – one way or another we buy a newspaper with want ads, job openings, or scan the specific pages in the Internet.
I am no an exception – I also had to get acquainted with the charms of job search and even learn from these lessons as everyone else. Perhaps it is necessary to start from point when I had to decide what I see my future job like – what I wanted to work as, a schedule to have, as well as – most importantly – how much I was going to earn. Having correctly assessed my capabilities, I came to the conclusion that I need a permanent job, but with a flexible schedule, or, in extreme cases, part-time. Having felt some that from any work of this kind I would get at least 300 but not more than 500 dollars per month, I went in the search of concrete vacancies.
All ads pasted on poles and handouts in the subway were wisely ignored by me – the prospect of “getting 4000 dollars per month, without any special effort” did not fascinate me. Even then I learned the first rule of job search – nobody pays money for nothing. Do not believe in the illusion that you’ll sit and spit at the ceiling and will be paid for it then. It does not happen, and if happens, it is not with us but with some Don Pedro who is in Mexican series.
So I decided to start looking for employment with newspapers, like the very old, tested and proven method. Asking in a newspaper kiosk all available newspapers, where you can find ads with vacancies, I proudly went off to study pile of newspapers and magazines. In the end of a day, I chose the job in such professions – all sorts of managers, assistant manager, promoters, sales consultants, a mysterious “earnings” and, pressed in a lonely corner such proposal “reporter required “. As a result, I had 17 vacancies for the first time.
Having written all of them on a separate sheet of paper – in order to to make notes about a particular job easier, as well as to point out, to whom I have already called and who is not – I went to ring up my prospective employers. I got a hold of approximately 15 people – numbers of two of pointed before did not exist, as I got known from a woman with an ATE. If speak about those 15, under various reasons I did not fit about 7 of employers – because of the age, sex, no required experience or special education. Another 4 did not fit me – they wanted me to be in the office from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. despite the fact that it was stated in the announcement that the staff they need would be for part-time. And I did not want it.
So I was left with 4 careers, where I was invited for an interview – 2 vacancies of manager, assistant manager and journalist. Then I learned the second lesson in work search – about 75 per cent of vacancies are blank shot for one reason or another. In fact, this is normal – when you do not fit someone and someone does not fit you. Point is not to dwell on this after the first unproductive call, and remember that the list of phones has got plenty of rooms, and you will find work with one of them. Not today, but may be tomorrow.
