After reading through many discussions within the webmaster communities I have quickly noticed that webmasters and bloggers are placing way to much importance on Page Rank. Over and over I hear them say that if they have page rank they would be able to make money online, but this is not the case. Page rank is only one factor when it comes to ranking well in the SERPs for highly competitive key terms and personally I have seen no correlation between a high page rank and high traffic. Now where the confusion begins is both ranking well within Google and the other major search engines and having a high page rank both require links coming in from external authoritative sources. The problem is when you are building links to rank well in the search engines sticking with related keyword anchored links is the best way to go. On the other hand if you are trying to build page rank any link will help especially links that are coming from pages with high page rank even though they are not related and you are not placing keywords between the anchor tags.
Before I begin discussing how to rank well within the search engines let’s talk a little more about page rank and what it means for your website. Webmasters and bloggers think that when they have a high page rank it automatically links your website is getting. The green bar is when Google checks your website once and does not represent the actual authority your website has.
If you want to rank well in Google and the other major search engines then it is a good idea to delete that little green bar. Page rank has absolutely nothing to do with your standings in the SERPs. Rather than worry about how much page rank you have you should be focusing on where you are in Google for different terms. You can have a page rank of 10, but if you type in the title of your website and do not show up then what good will it do. On the other hand you can have a page rank of 1 and be in the number 1 spot for a highly competitive term meaning a ton of traffic and the ability to make money. Focus on the keywords in your content and titles as well as the links coming in. When you create links on directories, article directories, forums, and social websites make sure between the anchor tags your keywords are present. This is what will help you rank well within Google not having a high page rank.
