This type of family budget is the most common. When a family chooses this method of family budget, it means that they put all their money together and then both partners decide together how to use the amount received for a certain period of time. The biggest advantage of this approach is that the financial questions are decided by both husband and wife. Husband and wife together are discussing upcoming expenses, and they are together responsible for the calculation of funds. Joint type budget, or “shared purse” is usually used by people with approximately equal incomes or couples where the wife is partially or totally dependent on her husband. This variant is almost inevitable when a woman is fully committed to caring for the child, and the husband remains the only breadwinner. That means, that the budget automatically becomes the sole, but psychologically it is still common – the money is in a certain place, the couple together decide how to manage it.

The basis of this approach is trust in each other, mutual responsibility and the ability to find a compromise. In this situation, a woman doesn’t worry about such issue as how to ask money from her husband. She has an access to finances, because a husband is sure in her. He knows that his wife does not spend extra money, knowing how it is hard for him to earn money for the whole family. In this case, the wife feels like a full-fledged mistress, having a voice and the right to participate in the distribution of family income.

Often, especially in young families, the problem arises when the husband does not allocate money to the wife for petty expenses or for the child. This can cause suppressed resentment on her part. The wife may draw a conclusion of his carelessness, callousness and meanness. But the satiation can be such, that the husband just did not realize that a woman needs money. A man can sincerely believe that he has fully arranged her comfortable life – he bought food and other essentials, relieving his wife from unnecessary efforts. Perhaps he did not realize that the wife has other equally important needs.

In such situations the wife shouldn’t be silent and tell about her offences to husband. The married couple should talk to each other and come to the solution, which will be convenient for both wife and a husband.
