CHAN:The Chinese Communist Party is under fire, after forcibly confiscating land and property in the country's Gansu Province. Thousands of Chinese protesting against the confiscation claim that it was illegal. STORY:Already twice this week Wudu city residents who lost their homes staged mass protests against local authorities. They say they were given too little compensation from authorities that claim the land is at high risk of an earthquake. Communist leaders appear unwilling to discuss the terms of the confiscation after ordering 200 armed police to disperse the crowd.Reports from China's state-run media mentioned minor police injury resulting from the clashes. But eyewitnesses say police brutality killed at least ten residents.[Gansu Province Resident]: "Around ten residents are dead and more than ten people were injured. Around 11a.m.  yesterday morning, the arrested residents were tortured in the government building. The police used nightsticks and bricks to beat them. Some people died from the beatings… men, women and even children. The government has transferred more than two hundred armed police to suppress the protest. They threw tear gas bombs everywhere around the city. Now we can't breathe or open our eyes.”Local resident Ms. Zhao is furious at the state-run media reports, slamming them as false and one-sided. [Ms. Zhao, Wudu City Resident]: "The government has caused resentment among the people that's why residents gathered in front of the government building and started a fire. The injury was caused by clashes with police, but the state-run media didn't report both sides. They just said there were a lot of injured police. They said nothing about the residents.”Many of the main roads are blocked; Internet filters and controls are in place, preventing many photos or videos from reaching the outside world.[Mr. Dong, Resident]:"We know that the authorities are restricting our demonstration. It's true that some people are dead and were injured."Authorities say security will be tight until November 23. After this date the company that benefited from the land confiscation plans to relocate their office to Chen city.NTD, Wudu City, China.
