China Mobile has acquired mobile numbers starting with "188" for its TD-SCDMA network. China Mobile will likely begin releasing these numbers nationwide after it releases TD-SCDMA numbers in Qingdao and Baoding in mid-July. Including the newly obtained 100 million "188" numbers, China mobile now possesses 130 million TD-SCDMA mobile network numbers. Rumor has it that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will award China Mobile with "189" numbers as well.

China's IT product import and export volume totaled $349.85 billion, up 21.2% year-on-year, in the first five months of 2008, according to Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) statistics released on Monday. Exports made up $201.95 billion, up 24.1% year-on-year, of the total, while imports came in at $147.9 billion, up 17.4% year-on-year. IT exports accounted for 37.1% of China's total export volume and IT imports accounted for 31.7% of China's total import volume during the period.
Nationwide LCD TV production was up 12.9% year-on-year to 62.326 million units for the first five months.

Ministry of Industry and Information (MII) released telecom industry statistics on June 19, reports People's Posts and Telecommunications News. According to MII, China's telecom industry recorded total revenue of RMB 906.61 billion in the first five months of the year, up 26.8% year-on-year. Telecom operation revenue was up 9.6% to RMB 330.55 billion and telecom fixed-asset investment was up 2.75% to RMB 75.05 billion. Mobile telecom revenue hit recorded RMB 176.85, up 16.5%, while fixed-line phone and data services (broadband Internet) generated revenue of 122.59 billion and RMB 30.72 billion, respectively. China lost 6.5 million fixed-line phone subscribers in the first five months of the year to reach 359 million subscribers and added 44.8 million handsets users to reach 592 million users at the end of May. China added 7.9 million broadband subscribers to reach a total of 74.448 million. China sent 287.26 billion SMS for the period, up 24.6% year-on-year.

China Mobile added 7.491 million new subscribers to its network in May to reach 407.039 million total subscribers by the end the month. China Telecom lost 820,000 fixed-line phone subscribers in May for a total of 215.47 million subscribers. The company gained 700,000 broadband subscribers in the period to book 39.06 million total broadband subscribers.
