MIIT Releases TD-SCDMA User Statistics

China has 300,000 TD-SCDMA users, reported by Han Xia, vice director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Telecom Administration Bureau on October 22.

China Mobile is targeting 400,000 TD-SCDMA users before the end of 2008. Company president Wang Jianzhou said China Mobile had 175,000 TD-SCDMA network users by August 24 - 104,000 free trial users, 60,000 Olympic users and 11,000 TD-SCDMA handset users subscribing to the GSM network.

Telecom Subsidiary Offering CDMA Promotion

China Telecom subsidiary Chongqing Telecom began allowing fixed-line users to call select CDMA numbers for free in mid-October. CDMA users can choose two fixed-line numbers that will then be able to call their mobile number for free, while fixed-line users can choose two CDMA numbers to which they can make free outgoing calls. Fixed-line users can change one of their selected CDMA numbers each month.

Chinese Telecoms Sector September User Data

China Mobile added 7.25 million new subscribers to its network in September to reach 436.12 million total subscribers.

China Telecom lost 630,000 fixed-line users to record a total of 212.97 million fixed-line subscribers in the same month. The company gained 730,000 broadband subscribers to reach 42.18 million total broadband users.

China Unicom added 1.27 million GSM subscribers in September to reach 130.73 million GSM users. The company’s CDMA business lost 626,000 users to reach 41.73 million by the end of the ninth month.

China Netcom added 607,000 broadband Internet users and lost 472,000 fixed-line phone subscribers in September. China Netcom had a total of 24.86 million broadband and 107.33 million fixed-line users by the end of the period.

China Telecom Offering CDMA In 1,300 Locations

China Telecom said that 1,300 of its service locations currently offer CDMA business, reports China Business News. All of its Shanghai, Chongqing, Hainan and Zhejiang province branches are included on the list. China Telecom completed the purchase of China Unicom’s CDMA business on October 1.
