Networking: Basic Issues

For the majority of people networking is something unnatural. At least they suppose so while doing their first steps networking. That may happen in accordance with our misunderstanding about networking, specifically if we need to use it in our job search. Let’s figure out what generally networking is and what is far from it.

You do not use people while networking. You are communicating with people and they are mutually sharing the information. Indeed, networking is a co-product of constant cooperation with the people in your sphere of interests. We cooperate and build relationship during our interaction with people.

The sense of networking do not consists the quantity of provided personal contact cards. It is not crucial how many cards you give to people. It concerns the relationships you create that are influenced your personal cards you have during communications with people.

You do not ask for a job while communicating with people and providing networking. Networking is commonly sharing significant information, selecting contacts you need and providing real communication with people.

You providing dialogs which can bring you helpful connections and you can mutually use this opportunity.

During the networking, always settle an objective to build relationships with people or make friends. Be attentive to individual you speak with and respect him. Be sincerely inquisitive about the other individual. Do not forget to ask relevant questions. Try get the answers on you questions to make the conversation sensible.

Always provide useful information to person you speak with. Try o give more then you receive. Try to help people before they help you. If you can’t make it search for ways to help them after they help you. It should be anyway mutually useful. It is very bad when you only receive halp and never do anything in return. In this way it is not a networking. If you behave that way you will spoil your reputation.

People make connections with high qualified professionals who help them to settle meetings some very significant people.

That was a situation when during the first conversation my colleague found out that one professional needed help to edit his writing. My colleague before that worked in publishing, suggested his editing services in order to thank him for a help. In this case this meeting was very mutual to both people. That is a very perfect case. Be ready to provide help in any situation.

Do not forget to thank a person who helped you. When a colleague provides a connection to you, makes an advice, or gives you valuable information, show them you appreciate their help.
