China Mobile, Telecom Announce December Statistics
China Mobile added 7.07 million new subscribers to its network in December to reach 457.125 million total subscribers.
China Telecom had 208.35 million fixed-line subscribers, down 2.02 million month-on-month, and 44.27 million total broadband subscribers, up 700,000 from November, by December 31. The company recorded 27.91 million mobile subscribers, including CDMA and PHS users, in its third month of mobile reporting, down 60,000 from the previous month. China Unicom began transferring the CDMA network to Telecom at the end of September.
China Unicom added 424,000 GSM subscribers in December to reach 133.365 million GSM users. The company's broadband network lost 22,000 users to reach 25.416 million by the end of the period while fixed-line subscribers were down 4.871 million to 100.146 million. China Netcom, including its broadband and fixed-line networks, was merged into China Unicom effective October 15.
